Surprisingly, for perhaps the first year since we began this popular poll, all the girls’ names that ranked in the top 5 are newcomers!
Leading the pack is Ophelia, a name that has gained significant popularity due to its Shakespearean roots and ethereal, poetic sound. It exudes both sophistication and mystery, making it a standout choice for parents seeking a name with depth and historical resonance.
Following closely is Milly, a charming name that feels both contemporary and classic. Often a diminutive of names like Mildred or Millicent, Milly has emerged as a standalone favorite, celebrated for its sweet, cheerful vibe. Emily, a name that has been a fixture in English-speaking countries for decades, retains its popularity due to its simplicity and timeless appeal. Derived from the Latin name Aemilia, the feminine form of the Roman family name Aemilius which comes from the Latin word “aemulus,” meaning “rival” or “eager,” typically in the sense of striving or aspiring.
