Wedding Card Greetings: Ideas and Examples

You’re invited to a wedding, you’ve got a blank card in front of you, and you’re wondering: “What on earth do I write?”
So, you open Google, or perhaps ChatGPT, grab a few ideas, write them down and you’re done.
Or perhaps you take a different approach.
You settle into a comfortable seat, pick up a pen and a notepad, and start scribbling. Brainstorming. What comes to mind when you think of the couple? What connects you to them? What do you feel when you think of them?
Because the words we choose for someone – wedding messages included – can actually have a far greater impact than we perhaps could imagine. And in our busy everyday lives, personal words like these sadly tend to get lost.
It isn’t the generic phrases on a last-minute supermarket card that make a heartfelt wedding card. It’s the words you truly feel and can speak from your heart, the words that fit this one particular couple you know. Words you’ve actually taken the time to think about before writing them down.

Wedding messages can sound wonderfully different from one another. And it doesn’t need to be an epic love poem or anything like that to mean something. Often, it’s enough for them just to be honest and heartfelt.
Examples of wedding greetings
Some wedding messages stay close to the couple themselves, simply describing what you see and feel:
“The two of you together – you’re just so real. You laugh, you savour life, you’re silly together, and you give each other those lovestruck looks that say it all.”
Or they contain a thank-you to love itself:
“You are two truly special people who radiate so much love and warmth! You show the world how wonderful love can be, and that’s a great gift. Thank you for making your love so visible, and for coming into my life!”
Some look towards the life ahead – the little moments and the big ones:
“We wish you a marriage full of adventures and little miracles. Spontaneous trips, cosy evenings, new places, good food, and countless moments you’ll never forget.”
Others are playful and pick up on shared interests:
“Marriage is like a game where you conquer levels together – including the occasional quest of who takes the bins out. May your discussions always be like fair rounds of a strategy game, where the real victory lies in working together.”
Or keep it short and sweet:
“Board game nights don’t solve problems, but they do reveal alternative approaches.”
And, others send the couple off with a little thought or piece of advice:
“Give each other as much love as you put into your perfect breakfast.”
Some draw on shared memories:
“It feels like only yesterday that you announced your relationship at the regatta in Hamburg – and now here we are, all together, celebrating your big day.”
And some turn poetic, playing with language and rhyme:
“Their story began with a hurdle or two,
for neither would say those three words, it’s true.
Hope was fading, love seemed done –
Then Darry’s cooking made two into one.
Their daughter Effie was the last puzzle piece
on the road to family happiness and peace.”
